1. If I had to live my life over and over again as given in Nietzsche’s myth of eternal recurrence, I would change my life every time it began again. In more detail, the first thing I would have liked to change is the location of where I grew up. Although I love living in southern California, if the chance was offered, I would like to experience how it is living somewhere different. Another aspect of my life that I would have changed is the career I pursued. I would like to learn as many different careers as I could. Along with my career I would change the locations of where I traveled so that I could have different experiences as the time before.
2. The biggest obstacles I confront in my educational career are the obstacles that life throws at me while I am trying to achieve my academics goals. For example, I did not grow up in a wealthy family, therefore my bills such as my phone bill, car, credit cards, gym membership, and other necessities have to be paid by myself which means that I need to work while also going to school. Working while going to school takes up time, and sometimes part of your focus away from your school work. Other personal obstacles such as my dislike for math also play a part in making school difficult.
3. Since the advent of hyper technology I am most attached and addicted to my phone. I realize this every time I lose or break my phone how attached I am to it. This makes me realize how dependent I am to this device. Without it, I would rarely know what time it is, the route to travel to any destination, or how to communicate with a lot of people. Of course the internet also plays a big part of my addiction to my phone. Having such easy access to any information in the world has made me spoiled to the difficultness of how it used to be to access information. My friends, similar to myself, are also addicted to the internet, their phones, and also their laptops which help all of us do school work. There are many pros to this advance technology such as being more aware of what is happening in the world, easily being able to communicate with anyone of your choice, and the entertainment which it brings along with having such a smart piece of technology. I believe one of the biggest cons of technology is what is known as “social media.” Social media are certain sites and the connection we have to what is relevant or popular in the word during the present. This creates a lot of room for judgment whether it is towards a famous celebrity or a middle school student. Regardless it causes harm to our society and the morals of many people who fall into the peer pressure of what is determined as “cool.”

If my life were a process that continually repeated itself, my perception of everything would change. I would always strive to be happy and make the right decisions, because I would eventually have to repeat the actions again. I truly would view it as the greatest gift one could receive. Even though difficult situations present themselves, knowing an identical situation will come up would inspire me to cease the moment and make the most of what I am given. This is a perception of life that I haven’t mastered yet personally (probably due to my young age and lack of experience with patience.) That being said, using this way of thinking can bring out some positive results, because asking the question “would I really want to have to do that again?” might be a good question to think about prior to making decisions
In my educational career many challenges and obstacles have presented themselves. From my experience, my largest challenge has been tough professors with outrageous policies. From no using the restroom without loss of points to 23/25 answers correct on a math test, but a 64% score. Teachers having students wrap their phones in paper and put them on her desk is another policy that has troubled me. I’ve always loved school except in classes with policies such as these. My issue is with the teachers having this egotistical sense of control as if they are the warden of a prison. The way to receive results as a teacher is to respect your students. Rules and boundaries should be set in a healthy classroom environment, but teachers should give students respect in order to receive respect themselves. Even though these teachers have caused me stress, and possibly a chance to attend my dream college, I use them as motivators to one day become a teacher myself. You can’t change someone’s policies or ideas, you can only deal with them and make the best of the situation. The way I see it, I can either complain that it’s too difficult, or I can harness my anger and use it as fuel to keep my desire to teach alive. Perspective can change the way you overcome obstacles.
With so many technological advances being made in the modern day, it is very easy to become attached to many different pieces of technology now available for us to use. An example of a technology that I’ve become hooked on is electronic cigarettes. I used to smoke tobacco in high school, and then I found out about a cleaner and safer ways to ingest nicotine. I bought one, and ever since I always have it with me. It works as a stress reliever and is extremely effective every time. I’ve become attached to it, because it gives me a break from the harshness of reality. I’m taking 13 units and working 20-30 hours a week, so with a schedule this full it keeps me sane. I’m a very mellow guy and I keep my composure usually because the electronic cigarette has recently calmed me down. I don’t see it as a lifelong addiction, but it is a piece of technology that I have become very attached to both mentally and emotionally. It truly does keep me happy on tough days. There are health risks that go along with it, such as the possibility of damaging my lungs, however personally I haven’t had any negative side effects in two years. For my friends, their addiction to technology is cellular phones. Without fail, every one I spend my time with is hopelessly addicted to their phone. They are always on social media telling the world what they just did, or texting someone the same content. This is how the entire generation of people born post 1990 are, this results in more antisocial behavior and less social skills for young adults and teens. It is an advantage that communication is now possible via cellular devices, however social media is a curse that hopefully future generations discover and eliminate.

Film Test #2
1. If I had to live my life over and over again I would change the way that I see myself. I would appreciate all the good things that I can do, instead of focusing on the bad things that I cannot do. I would stop being so hard on myself all of the time, and value who I am as a person more. I would also change the way that I see the world. I would live a better lifestyle that benefitted not only me, but everyone else around me. I would want to bring happiness to others, and be more present when encountering other individuals and their problems. I would change the way that I see life if I had to live it over and over again. I would want to make my life worth living again. The changed me would make the best out of every possible situation. No matter how difficult the situation is, I would try to bring light to every problem that I am faced with. I would have nothing but positivity and light to share with others because I would I be forever content with myself and my life.
2. Money is the biggest obstacle that I confront in my educational career. Without money or students loans I cannot continue my education. Many college students have the atrocious decision of dropping out or going into debt for a degree. The less money that I have, the more limitations I encounter throughout my academic journey. Corrupt professors are the second biggest obstacle that I confront in my educational journey. Some professors make a class so much harder than it needs to be. They lay down rules and guidelines that have nothing to do with the class or subject. Corrupt professors make classes almost impossible for their students to pass, and create a negative learning environment. The professors that go out of their way to make it harder for students limit the ability to succeed in college. A professor that is unreasonable and difficult limits my understanding of their class and the subject.
3. Since the uprising of hyper technology, my iPhone and laptop have become devices that I seem to not be able to live without. My laptop is a device that I use for almost every class in college. It holds all of my needed information, documents and projects. My iPhone is a portable version of my laptop for me. It also holds my information and important files. In addition, it allows me to communicate with my friends and family. Without my phone I feel like I am basically cut off from the rest of the world because everyone else uses smartphones to communicate too. My friends are most attached to their iPhones as well. We all feel as if we cannot leave our houses and go out into the real world without our phones in our society because we will not have any means of communication. A pro of these devices is the unlimited amount of information from the Internet. These devices allow access to information about literally everything on this planet. Another pro is fast communication. Hyper technology allows us to communicate within seconds, even across the continent. A con of these devices is the little to none human contact. Humans are communicating and connecting more through screens than face to face now. These smart devices are causing a gap between individuals

test #2
code: 1088
1. If I had to live my life over and over again. I would have stayed in college right after I graduated from High School. I would have taken college more seriously. So that I would have obtained my Associate’s Degree younger than I am now. I feel that if I would have stayed in college, I could have been way ahead with my education than where I am today. I could have had my dream job by this age with a Master’s degree or my PhD.
2. The biggest obstacles I confront with my education goals are maintaining a family life, working a steady career and while going to school part time to get an Associate’s degree. You have to find time to balance out your life. It’s really important to me to definitely make time for my family, as well as being successful at work because to be honest that is how I pay my bills and support my family, also finding time to study for an exam or complete homework without any distractions. I have been attending Mt. SAC part time for 2 years now and have been able to balance family/work/school. I try not to overwhelm myself with taking too many classes so taking 2 classes each semester seems to work well for me. I feel that Math is my most challenging subject because I haven’t used algebra since high school, so I have been out of the loop with using it for many years. It’s been a challenge to learn it all over again especially when the professors go so fast over the material.
3. Since the advent of hyper technology, I feel that I have become attached to my cell phone. I use it go get directions to get to a location that I have never been to before. Look up information on the web. Communicate with friends and family members. My friends or family members are most attached to game consols, such as xbox and playstation. They don’t seem to go outside and do much outdoor activity anymore. They just want to stay indoors and play video games. Pros of having a cell phone are having information at your fingertips. Cons of playing video games all day can make someone antisocial.

Film Test 2 1088 1. If I were to live my life over and over again, but had the ability to change certain things, I would change something, but would mostly keep everything as is The thing that I would definitely change would have to be being more dedicated to school during high school. Being out and about on a daily basis whether it be skateboarding, surfing, training for track or even going on long snowboarding trips during the winter made me not be as dedicated to doing school work because I thought I would just be able to cruise into a University because I was able to run a mile in 4 minutes as a sophomore in high school. Then one day before training I decided to go skateboarding. I attempted to do a 10 foot air over and object when my front foot got caught under my skateboard and snapped right down the middle. At the moment I was not thinking of anything but how I was going to get into a decent school since I was only averaging a 3.4 GPA at the time, which would not be enough to take me where I wanted to go. 2. The biggest problem that I confront in my educational career would have to be trying to manage my work schedule with my school schedule. As a current employee at UPS working the night shift Monday through Friday, I find myself not having enough time to do school work. Being at school all day and then going straight to work from there makes it very difficult for me to do homework or study since I go in right after school and get out at about 12 to 1 in the morning. Because of this I have decided to take a semester off of working in order to concentrate on my education since I am getting close to transferring to a four year university. 3. With this crazy advance in technology, I have not really found myself addicted to any devices since I hardly use them. Most of the people I know are addicted to their phones and social networking because for some apparent reason, they must know about everything that others are doing throughout their day.

Class Code: 1088 1) If you had to live your life over and over again(as given in Nietzsche's myth of eternal recurrence) describe precisely those things that you would change and why? If I was to live my life over and over again, you bet I would live my life to the fullest. I would wake up every morning and greet it with a smile. Changing my whole perspective on life, I would make every minute count. School, projects, and homework wouldn't bore me. I would pay good attention in class and never mess around, and I would do more extracurricular activities than sit around at home doing nothing. During my years as a kid all the way up to freshman year, I would always be the kid that wouldn't want to do anything. Not wanting to raise my hand during discussions, or ask questions to the teacher to better understand the subject. Wanting to fit in with the rest of the kids, I wouldn't dare try to stand out and be different than anyone else and come up with my own ideas. However, hypothetically, if this were to be true, I wouldn't be afraid to stand out and be myself. I would quit being the "shy" one and I would show confidence, whether or not I fake it. When it comes to relationships, I think I would approach more women, and ask them out, instead of gawking at them like an idiot with no courage. Knowing that my life is limited, and very precious, I would spend every moment of it, living to the fullest. As a further note, any passions that I have or had, I would focus on making them become a reality. These days, most people give up when they come across a roadblock. I, however, would trudge through and face all the challenges. And when I have finally reached the end of my life, I could look back at all I have done, and feel complete. 2) Thinking about your own life and connecting to the movie, the limits of science. What are the biggest obstacles that you confront in your educational career? More precisely, what limitations do you have that you feel limit your understanding of varying subjects and ideas? I believe laziness is what holds me back in my educational career. Even though I have all the resources I could possibly need, such as the internet, or the textbooks that the school gives me, or the library that is a 10 minute drive away, I don't utilize those resources much, because of "laziness". Its what many students go through, and is very hard to cure. However, this laziness is what holds me back from reaching my full potential. If human-kind wasn't lazy, we would be so much more technologically advanced. We could of probably cured cancer or aids, or stopped global warming. Unfortunately, since many are lazy, they don't realize that it affects them, and their future. 3) Since the advent of hyper technology, what devices have you become most attached to? Why? Which ones are your friends most attached to? What are the pros and cons of such devices(connecting of course to the movie "Surfing the User Interface) One piece of technology that I am attached to is my laptop. Why? Because it can do almost anything you wish it to do! You can find out stuff happening from across the globe, all while sitting on the couch your living room. It can play games, you can watch movies from it. However, just as much it is good, it is also as bad. It is unhealthy to sit on a long period of time with these pieces of technology. Even though you don't feel the consequences just yet, you will face them in the future. The time that we have with our technology, takes away from the time we have with our families. Its the hard truth, but people need to know this. My friend's also do this, and I'm sure a lot of other people do as well. For example, my friend, who I will call, "Andrew", likes to sit and binge watch Netflix. My other friend, who likes to play videogames, plays for long periods of time. This time also takes away from the time we can be studying for school, and to get better grades. As afraid, as I am excited, virtual reality can really impact us in a good and bad way. Good as experiencing things you never experienced before, and bad as in using it for too long. Because it is so immersive, people may forget that there is a "real" world. Thus, leading to health problems. These pieces of technology can really have consequences on our lives, and it is your job to make sure you utilize those pieces of technology wisely. sites.google.com/site/chrisphilweb/film-exam-question-2

James Parker Intro Phil Wed 7pm
Film Exam 2 765
1. If my life was in a constant loop in the eternal hourglass of existence, I would like to go back and change anything I regret and fix any mistakes I've made. But upon closer examination, anything I change in my past will affect my future. And some of my regrets and mistakes are what made me who I am today. But if I were to change anything specifically I'd stop myself from ever smoking cigarettes due to the obvious damage it does to my health. Another thing I would change would be going back to college earlier than I have. Instead of spending years in the working world, which ended up putting me behind my peers. But If I could live my life in a constant loop as given in Nietzsche's myth of eternal recurrence. I would want to live a completely different life every-time so I could be apart of the totality of the human experience.
2. The Limits of my skull are the limits of my understanding, therefore what are my neural limits? And how do the they effect my educational goals? One subject I've always struggled with is math, and that can have a large impact on certain classes and then there's the mathematics requirement for graduation. I feel my problem is a left/right side brain issue, the side of my brain that's more analytical and logical is eclipsed sometimes by the side that is more creative. I'm currently learning algebra and I believe I can learn anything in time, but right now trigonometry seems like a foreign language to me.
3. The device im most attached to would be my laptop, all my friends are more attached to there phones. I prefer my computer over a phone that tries (very well) to be a computer. I enjoyed the film "Surfing The User Interface" especially where they talk about people are usually stuck on the surface of apps. Not knowing of the "Subterranean caverns of technology under the surface". I'm going to Major in computer programming, So when it comes to a Laptop versus a Phone. My reasons are obvious not only can I handle more complicated computing tasks on a laptop. And if I wished too I could even call and text people on a computer program like Skype. On the other hand a phone is a more mobile technology it can fit in your pocket and be everywhere with you. For most people it is a more intimate technology, and becomes apart of much of our time, and therefore our lives

Film Exam Extra Credit Responses Code#: 1088
Response to James Parker:
1.) I wish I didn't wait two years to go back college, so I understand how you feel. However, I actually disagree that you would think that working put you behind your peers. If anything, it has put you ahead because now you have the job experience you can add to your resume if you ever plan on applying for another job. Some people would give anything to have that experience to land them a job they've been desperately wanting. I would also be curious and want to live multiple, vastly different lives.
2.) I, too, struggle with math and it may as well be a foreign language. I wish I understood and grasped the material the way my sister does. It's like pulling teeth for me when it comes down to calculus. I'm more on the creative side and focus more on my writing than possessing the ability to dissect a math equation.
3.) I used to be more attached to my laptop than my smartphone because I liked watching YouTube videos on a bigger screen. Now that I've upgraded my smartphone and the screen is bigger, I've been relying on it more often to keep myself entertained. Although, I agree with you that a laptop is handier because I find that it's easier to use and access the Internet whenever I'm working on my homework.

Film test 2 code 1088
1. Changing something in the past will cause a change in the future. Because of this fact alone I would not risk changing anything in the past. Of course there are things that I regret doing in the past, but those mistakes make up who I am today, and I am fine with it. I believe that even if I avoid making most of the mistakes I made in the past, I would eventually make it later on because without making those mistakes, I would not have learned about them. The thing that I would not want to change at all cost is when I met the best friends I have today.
2. Unlike many people that I know, I actually enjoy math and other science subjects like physics and chemistry. The biggest struggles I have in my educational career so far are history and social science classes. In science classes, everything happens for a reason; therefore, I can understand how things work and I would only be required to memorize a few things. In math classes, I never have to memorize formulas since I can derive most of them from another simpler formula that is easy to remember. History and social science classes, on the other hand, require students to memorize events and contents without understanding the why of it all.
3. My friends and I are all attached mostly to our computers. The reason for this I believe is because people with similar interests are more likely to go along well. The good thing about computers is that it helps us come together and strengthen our friendship. Ironically this is done through playing computer games together. One of my memorable nights from my high school memory is actually pulling an all-nighter just being in a skype call together and playing League of Legends. The only bad thing about a computer is that it causes us to spend our time doing useless things instead of being productive doing school works.

765 1. If I had to live my life over and over I would make changes to help me develop in a fulfilling way, and continue doing thing things I love - like going to concerts, music festivals, and adventuring with friends - just more often. I would take up new hobbies and master them I fell like I would try to learn and become great at cooking, yoga, and longboarding. Camping and travelling to places where nature flourishes and is abundant is an activity I would increase drastically. I would get a pet, probably a kitten to join me in my fun life. I would want my time spent alone to enhance me as a person, to add value to my life. For this reason I would learn how to cook so I could always be able to depend on myself for fantastically flavorful meals and do yoga for my body. I'd continue to be friendly, open and positive and keep being a woman of science to enjoy the mysteries of the universe - in a state of awareness of my own uncertainty of everything just having a great ride. I don't think I would change myself all that much, I would just do more of what I love. 2. The biggest obstacles I face in my academic career is firstly being rather bright, but having a lot of difficulty focusing on tasks like reading the texts, and also in acquiring the motivation to do certain assignments because they "aren't fun" or I'm afraid to do poorly, so I avoid it altogether... Counterintuitive, I know. Limitations of my understanding of various subjects and ideas are largely my lack-of-interest... I'm trying to develop a fascination with the world so I can "get curious" about subjects that would typically bore me. When I'm curious about something, I dive in... My interest in cosmology and outer space has driven me to watch all kinds of shows and films with educated astrophysicists explaining in depth how things work and have resulted in me learning far more about chemistry, physics, and quantum mechanics than I ever expected or planned, simply because these things are involved in having a thorough understanding. In this light, I figure if I can attempt to replicate this curiosity within other subjects of study I will, at very least, improve upon how I've been, and hopefully enjoy it and learn these subjects with a manner of ease and naturality. 3. The device I have become most attached to is my phone. Probably second to that would be my laptop. I use both to stay organized, entertained, and to communicate. Downloading ebooks on my phone is a convenience I particularly enjoy because it's light and ready to go if I ever have a moment to pause and just read. I especially like this to use during my breaks at work sometimes. I could live without my phone but I think it would feel strange for a bit and require a bit of adjusting. Texting people for going out to concerts, hikes, anywhere is so convenient; and without my phone there would be a lot of extra effort involved in what is normally a simple task. My friends are also most attached to their phones. I see a trending interest in Instagram and other social media apps for quite a few of them, while others remain more low key. A con to being attached to one's phone is the way you can really stop yourself from socializing in person. Also, some may find that communication by phones can fall flat compared to face-to-face interaction. I appreciate my phone but with that comes an understanding of when it is and isn't appropriate to be using it, and giving my attention to the people in front of me out of respect. Also, knowing when to just put it away allows me to just enjoy being in the moment when I find myself in a good place or with good people. Original post

Film Test 2 Code: 1088
Question One
If I had to live my life over and over again, I would change a lot. To begin, I will start with what I believe is the most important. I wouldn't have let down all the people that have counted on me, and I would have been there for them. I also would have made better choices in highschool, and gone straight to college after I graduated. Also, I'd stay away from the people that have affected my life in a negative way, and I would have trusted and believed in myself more. I would change all these things because these past actions of mine have not left me in the most ideal situation.
Question Two
Thinking about my own life, the biggest obstacles that I confront in my educational career are procrastination, and my difficulty with math. I would say that math is my weakest subject, but because it is needed for my major and general education it has halted my success, and because I tend to procrastinate so much, I often start my assignments at the last minute, not giving myself the opportunity to give it my full effort.
Question Three
I would say that my friends and I are most addicted to our smart phones because they do pretty much everything. They help us communicate and keep track of time. They're also our calculators, planners, calendars, cameras, notebooks, maps, music players, and so forth, and with them being incredibly easy to store and carry, we have the luxury of taking them everywhere we go. However, I'd have to say that the greatest benefit these devices offer is being able to have the answer to everything within our pockets and purses, thanks Google. They hold all our pictures and social media accounts and because of this, they have arguably become our connection to the world around us. Unfortunately, this so happens to be their greatest drawback as well. We have become extremely dependent on our phones, and it has gotten to the point where we can't go anywhere without them. Just forgetting them at home for the day leaves us with the feeling that something is missing. It is true that they have alowed us to connect with the outside world in a way that wasn't possible in the past; however, because we have become so enveloped in our phones, we aren't really experiencing the world around us anymore.

Film Test 2 Code: 1088
1) There are several things I would change if I could live life again. Three things that stick out are to do things to increase my height, start tennis at an early age, and build a better foundation in math. I am not total sure if it is partly from my genes that I am just average height but I think I played a role in why I am not the height I want to be. To increase my height, I would have probably drink more milk and get more sleep. My cousins drank milk continuously and had regular sleeping schedules, and most of them are taller than me, but who knows? This may be all a myth and could be all due to the genetic coding in my DNA. Another thing I wish I started at an early age was playing tennis. Although I did start when I was 6, when I moved to America I stopped up until 11th grade where I continued. I am decent at tennis but I never got to the level where I could compete at a high intensity level. Every time I enter a tournament I was either a Class C player or a Class B. I would not be able to survive Class A or even the Open level. Starting tennis at a young age would give me an amazing head start to improving my game. Lastly, the most important thing is improving my knowledge in math. I would want to have a better foundation in mathematics since it is very rusty right now. Moving from place to place affected this because I was placed in different levels in math every time I moved so I never got a solid foundation because I wouldn’t understand a thing once I got into a new school. Throughout the years it has gotten much better but it is not the level I wish for it to be. This is a huge problem because I want to become an astrophysicist, a career that requires a great knowledge of math.
2) My biggest obstacle right now is my weak foundation in math as I mentioned previously. This is halting me from progressing any further. I am an open minded person, and my mind is always in motion. I would say I have the mind of a scientist because if someone has a counter argument I will listen to them, and if I have been proven wrong I accept that. I will not hold onto something I believed was the truth if there was clear evidence that I am the one who is wrong. Hence in subjects where conversations happen and where ideas are constantly pumped I do really well because 100% of my attention is given. This is where the problem comes in because when it comes to math, I feel that there isn’t really any conversation happening. It is a professor teaching you steps, formulas, etc. It feels one-sided I cannot engage in anything. There are zero conversations going on. All I can do is listen and ask questions if I am confused on a topic so I can only give some of my attention at times because I doze off thinking about random ideas. That plus my weak foundation just makes everything a complete mess and limits my learning. It has gotten better ever since I entered college so it is something that I have been working on a lot.
3) The number one device I am attached to is my phone. Back when I was in my young teens I did not own a cellphone and every time somebody said “I can’t survive a day without my phone” I used to think they were insane. I would think “I don’t even have a phone and I am perfectly fine without them!” Fast forward 6 years later I have become one of those people! I am infected with the disease. I impulsively check it for no apparent reason. I also check social media when I get the chance. Maybe the reason why I am addicted to my phone is because if I don’t check it I feel like I am missing out on some things, and it just a great way to pass time when you are waiting for something or someone. My friends are about the same. They are all addicted to their phones as well. The pros of these devices are the amount of knowledge is in the palm of your hands. If you wanted to know about the history of China you could. If you wanted to know about how to make the best kimchi fried rice recipe you can. If you wanted to know about Friedrich Nietzsche’s book, The Antichrist, you can even do that! All of this is just a few clicks away. Some other pros are knowing the weather, where you exactly are located, how to get to a certain location, translator, calling, seeing your loved ones face through a screen even if they are 6,000 miles away, etc. The cons are being too invested in such devices; a person could be wasting their time checking social media instead of reading a book or doing something more productive. Also some people do not focus on reality since all their attention is on the phone. For example, I have friends that take pictures of everything instead of enjoying and living in the moment. Technology itself is amazing and I do not despise it. I also don’t understand how people can say “I want to reject technology; we don’t need it.” We live in a society surrounded by technology, and they choose to reject it? It just boggles in my mind because if they were dying of a disease I know that they would change their mind in an instant just to save themselves. Also they say it’s a negative thing? That means they have to go on a horse instead of a car. It is only bad if it consumes a person’s life and they just forget about the outside world. It is also bad if they are negatively affecting others, but other than that I do not see anything wrong with technology. I guarantee you that if we remove technology in our society we would be set back to the dark ages.
