Philosophy Film Test 2
1. If I had to live my life over and over again, I would go back to the summer of my freshmen year of high school. At that time od mu life is when I decided to make poor educational decisions. If I had just went ti summer school and placed into Algebra 2 instead of geometry I would’ve done my homework. Out of all my friends, I was the only one in geometry, so when we all did homework together I didn’t want to pull out my geometry text book because I was embarrassed and didn’t want to be judged. Ever since then I barley did my homework and stared getting lower grades, I know it sounds dumb, but it is in my nature to try to be the best at what I do, and that is when I picked up drumming and became the best at that. Once I got to junior year I took math over summer and caught up to my friends and I realized how stupid it was to just give up on something as simple as placing in a lower math class. Now at Mt. SAC is a fresh opportunity for me and I’m going to do the best in my ability to become the best student I can be in all my classes, but if I’m not, then I learned my lesson that it is not something to cry over.
2. I believe that the biggest fear for me is that since I want to become a doctor my education will be very long and tedious. The only thing that limits my understanding is me. I strongly believe that if you are focus and know what you want to do you can do it. So the only thing that is limiting me is my lack of focus sometimes.
3. My friends and I are all hooked on to our phones and computers. It’s kind of sad how we have to play a game on the dinner table just to get us to get off our phones and actually converse with the people we are with. The game is that we all have to stack our phones on the table and whoever touches their phone first has to pay for every ones food. As the film shows, none of us really understand how the phone works, we just use it at its simplest form. The pros of these devices are that they are very helpful on educating ourselves, from knowing where to eat to asking a simple math problem. But the cons of these devices are that they take up our life. Not statistically speaking, but I’m almost 100% sure that us new generation kids spend more time staring at any type of screen then we actually do talking to someone in real life or the minutes we stare at the screen can’t compare to how many actual real life walking steps we have taken.

Week 2 Film Responses (Test #765) Question 1: If I had to live my life over and over again like in Nietzsche’s myth of eternal recurrence, I think I would change my life in a way that would put more of a focus on finding the things that make me happy. As I grow older I’ve come to realize that that’s all life really is, is finding these experiences and interests that bring you pleasure and sharing them with the ones that you love. I think that I would also try and change my life so that I invent the next best thing and have enough money to live a comfortably lavish but simple lifestyle. Question 2: I feel as though my personal limitations deter me from reach my full potential at times but I also feel that it is ok. Although I used to have a lack of self-confidence and a lot of self-doubt as a kid, it was because of those limits and obstacles that I grew into the person I am today. I feel also that the most common tragedy in today’s society is that modern day educational systems have such a backwards concept of learning that they might actually be doing more harm than good to the student body in the long run. I am definitely limited in my learning because of they way that I am being taught and the way school systems are structured. I need to be traveling the world, learning useful and applicable things first hand whilst also cementing different experiences and memories in my head that will last me a lifetime and enrich my being, something that I believe is just as if not more important than school. Question 3: I definitely spend a decent amount of time with my electronic devices whether it be phone, computer, TV, etc. and I do believe that it is a generational trend that causes these behaviors in people my age. I don’t believe that this will last forever, but I do fear sometimes that people can become too absorbed into their technological prisons. sites.google.com/a/student.mtsac.edu/tsunamithoughts/?pli=1

Test #: 765
1. Personally, I wouldn’t really be that interested in changing my entire life, I’m thankful for the life I’ve lived and for the lessons I’ve been taught coming from all the mistakes and decisions I’ve made. But, if I were to live a “perfect” life, there are some things I’d change about myself in order to be satisfied every second of my life. The biggest component of my life that I would change, is my work ethic. There are certain things I’m passionate for, and I will constantly be speaking about these things, so the people who are hearing me speak about them, will believe that I am very passionate towards these things. But, i can honestly say that my actions do not level up with my words. Whether its my love for basketball, my desire to go to UCLA, or my ultimate goal of becoming a doctor, I have never actually worked hard enough to say I’ve worked my hardest to achieve these goals.
2. I may not be ultimately the smartest student I could be, and my main limitation that holds me from being the most intelligent I could be, is my lack of creativity. In my opinion, the smartest people, are the most creative people. Their uniqueness, their ability to create their own paths in order to succeed in whatever they are trying to achieve, is what makes them great at what they do. Creativity is KEY in reaching your goals, you learn to go beyond your comfort zone and to reach out to expand your knowledge of various subjects and ideas.
3. Technology has been huge in our current society, everywhere you go, everyone has a smartphone. Kids are all the owners of Ipads, Iphones, and tablets. Our society is becoming addicted to these devices, and as much as I hate it, I am too addicted to my IPhone more than anything. It literally consumes my life, whenever my hands are free, my fingers are on some social networking application or texting my friends. I feel like I am connected with everyone that I know, I know where everyone is, what everyone is doing, how everyone is feeling, it interests me and keeps me entertained. Same with all my friends, everyone is always on their phone communicating with whoever they'd like to speak to. There are pros to this however, you are connected with everyone you'd like to be connected with, you can surf the web whenever you'd like, call/text anyone at anytime, these are things that do provide help in your daily life. The cons to this however, you can become very antisocial when you are being consumed by being on your phone with your friends, theres a lack of appreciation for earthly beauty around you while you're on your phone, you can be distracted from your studies/paying attention in class. To me it ultimately hurts us more than it helps, I think if we were less attached to our phones, we could, without a doubt get a ton of more things done.

Week Two Question 1 If I had to relive my life for eternity, I probably wouldn't really change much. Maybe some painful moments like when I got seriously injured skating or playing baseball and soccer. But beside that maybe not much, due to the fact that I really feel like things happen for a reason and so far my life hasn't been a bad one. Although since I am fairly young and just beginning to live my entire life I could be speaking too soon. But I really feel there isn't something I regret so much that I would have to change it. Question 2 One of the biggest problems for me academically is I do not put all my effort into something that does not really interest me. For example I was not too bad when it came to math, I understood fairly well although it was not something that I was excited to learn about. I did not study or really put effort into it. And it is things like this that can limit me from being able to reach my full potential of understanding. Question 3 My phone is one thing that I have become attached to as well as my iPod. My phone keeps me connected to my friends and family as well as the world wide web. I have tried to go without a phone for a week and it gets so boring. My ipod is one thing that helps with that boredom it has all the music I listen to and keeps me somewhat sane at times. The only good pro to me about such devices is the fact that information is always at our hands. It makes it so that this information is always somewhat accessible to us. The con is we get to attached and too dependable to it and this can always take away the beauty of moments especially when you always have to tweet about it. sites.google.com/site/icanyoucantu/

Question 1: If I had to live my life over and over again for eternity I don’t think I would try to change anything. No matter what you do in life you will repeat it. It may be fun the first time around but soon enough the inevitable comes and you have to relive the same adventure filled life over and over again which to me is just as scary as mediocrity. I would not like to make conscious decisions about everything I do from now on simply because I know that it’s going to happen again in the next life I’m living for today not for tomorrow.
Question 2: An obstacle that I have in my educational career will probably be myself. I tend to not pay attention to, or half ass subjects that I don’t want to do without really giving any of the subjects a chance. This limits me in every way because a lot of the subjects that I don’t take seriously are subjects that I need. If I found a way to more efficiently apply myself I know my limits would more than double
Question: 3 I’m not to attached to any electronic devices but I am very attached to my car, if I didn’t have the ability to just get up and go I don’t know what I would do. I’m not someone who can stay still for too long and I’m not easily entertained I have to be up and about doing something. I’m not always necessarily doing something but just the fact that I know I can if I wanted to helps. If I didn’t have my car I would get anxiety knowing that I couldn’t go anywhere eon if I didn’t have anything planned for that day.

Question #1 #632
If I were to find that I am just "stuff" and just this body I'd be skeptical at first. Then I would feel upset and lose purpose in life. What would be the point of doing anything if there is no higher level of being. I can reach beyond this body. Faquir Chand realized the guru effect is a fake, a figment of ones imagination based on the visions people had of him. Even though they weren't real visions they still saved a lot of peoples lives. Hadn't they believed they were real those people wouldn't have survived. The visions gave them purpose therefore believing there is a higher purpose and not just "stuff" is essential.
Question #2
An example of Platos Allegory of the cave that I experienced was a time I swore I saw my boyfriend at the time kissing a girl at a party we were in. Before I saw the incident my boyfriend's friend had told me that he was cheating on me. I feel that we chose to see things we want to see or interpret things in a way that will make more sense based off of what we already know. Another example is more figurative. As a child we view our parents as super human. I viewed my father as kind of a superman. Turns out he was just a man.

1. Just thinking about my life being reoccurring makes me scared and excited at the same time. I know that I would begin to appreciate life more, and do things that I love and enjoy. Sometimes I feel like my life is a little boring, but I would change that. I would assume that I would take classes to learn different things, fun things. Maybe, I would not take life so seriously, as well as everything else. Just thinking about the possibilities of reliving my life makes me want to change things now.
2. Currently the two biggest obstacles in my educational career are money and transportation. I keep on thinking about how I am going to pay for my bachelor’s and law degree. I know that I will continue going to school, but just thinking about the financial aspect stresses me out a bit. Transportation is a big drag because I have to drive forty miles to school and forty miles back home. Living far from school makes me not want to come to school at all, but I know I have to. Limitations that go with my understanding in school would be me overthinking everything and me being stubborn with my beliefs. When I overthink everything it is when I doubt my answers and when I doubt my intelligence. Then, when it comes to learning something that goes against what I have believed I have a difficult time changing my mind.
3) I think that I have become attached, not addicted to my phone and my computer because I use them regularly and I can live with out them. However, most of the people around me have somewhat of an addiction to their phones. Whether it is an iPhone or an android, the type of attachment they have to their phone leans more to an addiction. I know some people that freak out immediately when they get their phones taken away. Pros to phones would be the technology from them that allow us to get information while on the go. However, the cons would be the need to have them with us at all times.

Code:765 Question1: If I can live my life again, I would like to change my grade. Although the grade is not the most important thing in the life, but grade actually mean a lot in lots of cases like good grade can make you get into good school and good company. Moreover, sometimes good grade can give people a good impression. If you are in a good school, people will suddenly see you in a different way and assume you know lots of things. Also, if you are in a good school, it also means that you pretty much get a fast pass to a better company. After you get into a better company, you will meet higher level people. Your life up to now is already walks on a flat road that won’t have barrier confront you way to success. Question2: In my education career, science is the biggest obstacle that challenges me to get good grade. I am good at calculating the math, but once you make the science part together, than I just cannot understand how to solve it. Not only the physics but also the chemistry stops me to get the good grade. I don’t know how, but science is just not easy to me. If it can like the art, I think I will be really interest with it. Because art is my best subject, I can always really enjoy when I was drawing or painting. Question3: Since the technology has been appeared more often in our daily life, the problem of addicting to technology product has also become a big issue. I have the same problems too that I have been addicted to mobile phone few years already, and when I found out I already cannot live without it. I use it before the class, after the class, before go to sleep and during eating. Although there are lots of pros about cell phone, but there are also lots of cons too. We can using it listening the music, calculating, dictionary and surfing the internet too. There are too much thing that we can do it by using our cell phone, but the problems that it brings are also a big concern. The cons like using too much before go to sleep will make you can’t fall asleep easily. This fact has been science proved that the radiation will make you not easily fall asleep, and this problem become really annoying to me lately. sites.google.com/a/student.mtsac.edu/kengwei-liu-philosophy-5/homework-week-2

1. If you had to live your life over and over again (as given in Nietzsche's myth of eternal recurrence), describe precisely those things that you would change and why?
If I had to live my life over and over again as given in Nietzsche’s myth of eternal recurrence, one of the things I would change would have to be the way I spent my time. People including myself waste so much time throughout the day and don’t even realize it. Time waits for nobody I don’t care who you are we all have the same amount of time in a day. The clock never stops ticking. I always ask myself at the end of the day did I make the most out of my time. Mostly the answer is no because I always feel like I could be doing more or something. There was this passage I read long time and it stuck with me forever, it said “imagine there is a bank account that credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day. Every evening the bank deleted whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day. What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course? Each of us had such a bank. Its name is time. Every morning, it credits toy with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off as lost, whatever if of this you have failed to invest to a good purpose. It carried over no balance. It allows no over draft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day. If you fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is yours. There is no drawing against tomorrow. You must live in the present on today’s deposits. The clock is running. Make the most of today.” So I would change the way I spent my time.
2. Thinking about your own life (and connecting to the movie, the limits of science), what are the biggest obstacles that you confront in your educational career? More precisely, what limitations do you have that you feel limit your understanding of varying subjects and ideas?
If I think about my own life in connection to the movie the limits of science, I think the biggest obstacle in my educational career would have to be money and keeping focus. I always stress about money it’s either I need to make more money so I can pay for this and this or it’s I don’t have enough money to do this and this. Staying focus is another big problem of mine. When I’m focus there is nothing I can’t do but it’s getting to that point. I’ve always had a hard time staying focus since I was little but I think it is something that I have be better at over time.
3. since the advent of hyper technology, what devices have you become most attached or addicted to? Why? Which ones are your friends most attached to? What are the pros and cons of such devices (connecting, of course, to the movie, "Surfing the User Interface?”
The device that I have become mostly addicted to is my iPhone. My iPhone is like my own personal assistant, it can check my bank account, set daily reminders, wake me up on time for work, helps me stay connected with God, tells me if I have eaten to much in a day, keeps my updated on my favorite sport team, etc… But another strong reason I love my iPhone so much is because I don’t live with my father anymore so that means I don’t get to see him every day like I use to but ever since I got this iPhone I can see him every single day with FaceTime. Know I use to do it with my laptop but the problem with that is I had to be at home when I do skype him but with my iPhone I can be driving or walking around on campus and I can see him. Most of my friends also have their iPhones also. I don’t think there is any cons to having an iPhone because who wouldn’t want a personal assistant.

2nd Film Test Questions Code: 765
1.If I had to live my life over and over again I would change my thoughts in my head that make me come up with excuses to stop me from doing important things like working out and just doing my best everyday in general every single day. Those thoughts like overthinking, and doubting. Without these thoughts I think I would probably be doing many daily activities than what I do now to get to live more and experience new things, like studying abroad and going to new places, and many other great things I don't know of that are in this world. I would change my life completely into a whole different lifestyle. I would like to be graduated from college already with a bachelors degree, traveling all over the world constantly enjoying life not worrying about not a single thing going to concerts, swimming, learning, meeting celebrities, working out every single day, owning many nice cars, houses, clothes, etc. Meeting new people and things every single day! Believing in greater things that can happen, being grateful for everything I have, because I have been told I'm selfish and ungrateful, and I just want to be happier!
2.Thinking about my own life the biggest obstacles that I confront in my educational career are that I can be a little too timid sometimes to ask questions when they are needed to as during a class. Another obstacle is just being shy to talk to classmates to get their info. in case of any reminder I will probably need in class. Other obstacles I have in my educational career is Math, that's one thing I really don't like, it's a boring subject and I really don't see any use of it in my daily life, besides subtracting and adding or multiplying. Some limitations I have for myself would be history I would rather take another course than History because I find that subject extremely boring even though its something I should know more and more about.
3. The devices I have become the most addicted to would be my Iphone. I think it's extremely addicting and time consuming! It's pros are having a really nice device that can communicate you to people. The amazing camera that it has, the fast internet it has, the pretty and luxurious appearance it has, speed, and it can carry so many apps that can entertain you, organize your personal needs like contacts events, or planning. Other pros would be you can see great ideas for your daily organizing at home on the app Pinterest, read inspiring quotes, have daily motivation, read interesting facts and learn things from wise people that are possible across the world. The cons would be it takes away lots of your time if you let it and stay so focused on it doing nothing but scrolling through instagram, or another other social media. Another con is that it can hurt your eyes after a while, maybe stay up all night just surfing the web on the tiny device.

Juan Flores Code: 765 1. If I were given the chance to live my life over and over again I would change the following. first I was trying to enjoy my youth. I am NOT saying I have not enjoyed it so far. However, school work other responsibilities give me a few hours do have fun or go out, etc. For example, in one single normal day in my life, I go to school in the morning and work in the afternoon so when I get home I am really tired to go out. Besides, I have to work or school the next day. Second, I would do what I really want more often. Again, time is limited in my daily living, so now I do not have enough time to play soccer or video games with my friends as much as I want to. Back in Ecuador, it all worked perfectly because my parents were the ones that had to work, and I only cared about studying and having fun. On the other hand, I would not change anything about my childhood. I think that it is really impressing and an example for me how my parents were able to be succeed with three children. They studied and graduated while taking care of my sisters and myself. Besides, it is really fun to grow up next to your cousins, uncles, aunts and even neighbors who are willing to help you out and have fun. 2. Back in Ecuador, I did not find any obstacles, because my education was great, and I always had someone next to me explaining everything if I got stuck. However, when I moved to the US, getting used to a new language was obviously an obstacle, but it is a matter of time to learn it. Also, not being understood is really frustrating. However, if you really do your best, you will eventually learn. It is all about adapting to a new system, culture, etc. 3. I felt attached to my PS2 and PS3 for a long time. The last couple years I have been attached to my cellphone. However, I am not addicted to it. There are so many cool apps that I cannot stop looking at my phone. The good things about it is that nowadays that is the only way to learn new things. I can read books, watch tons of videos, listen to music, do my homework, connect with my family and friends. On the other hand, when I spend too much time on my phone, I feel like I am missing many things of the world surrounding me. sites.google.com/site/phil5byjf/tests

question #1
If I had to live this life over and over I know that I would change my attitude towards education that I formed at a young age; more specifically math. I would probably change the low self esteem I had when I was in middle school and the amount of times that I told myself I was anything less than a fabulous, intelligent and beautiful young woman. I’d say that I would be okay with repeating this life up to this point because all the past events and mistakes and ect have made me who I am today, but that would also mean that Im okay with being complacent and average ..which I'm not. Up to this point, I feel thats what my life’s been like, so If i could I would somehow apply my life experience and what I know now back then and maybe at this point I’d have a better understanding of life. All you can really do is focus on the present moment and live it to very best of your ability.
question #2
One of the biggest obstacles i face when it comes to my educational career is my procrastination/laziness. I tend to put things off until the last minute usually resulting in subpar work. ( this homework assignment for an example, I'm literally typing this right now even though I had all week to work on it). I also tend to be somewhat forgetful and don’t usually prioritize. All these things are habits I've formed and kept over the years, but as I've come to learn.. they’re only true because I believe them to be. I can change any of these bad habits whenever i chose to.
question #3
The iPhone is a huge part of not only my life, but pretty much everyone’s I know as well. It really is an addiction! you find yourself looking at your phone at any idle moments, checking instagram/twitter etc constantly, always looking for that instant gratification. I’d be lying if I said i wasn't guilty of being one of those people constantly on their phones, but its so easy to get sucked into that cyber world. Most of my friends have that same problem. The best example I can give of a con is how i've observed a lot of people at shows and concerts recording a video of the performance, and it’s like, what for ? so you can watch it later ? why not just enjoy it right then and live. When you rely on your phone you're missing out on so much of the real world that’s right in front of you. Some of the pro’s are of course communication, easy access to information, and it’s a repository of productive software

Alejandro Carrillo Test #2 Philosophy 5 M/W 8-9:25
Question 1: If i had to change my life, some of the things i would change are definitely playing basketball as a career and focusing more on basketball. back when i was in high school i regret not playing for the varsity team, but most importantly not staying determined and focusing on playing for college. in my opinion i was very talented at age of 16 years old. I have a strong belief that if i would have stuck to the game plan could have had a chance to get a scholarship to play for a university and possibly move on to the NBA.
Question 2: thinking about my own life the biggest obstacle that i confronted in my educational career is going to class everyday while living on my own. going to school while having to pay rent/food/bills all on my own is a tough task. i live by myself so cleaning also takes a lot of my time. also the other obstacle would be losing my dad at age 10 for deportation. it was hard on me because i still needed my father to keep teaching me on how to be a man. my dad was a great teacher and was multi talented, he was a jack of all trades. still to this day i need him for life advice and i do not have him around he is lost somewhere in mexico.
Question 3: the devices that have become most attached or addicted to would be my phone. although i notice i shouldn't be on it, i find myself on it quite frequently and i want to break that bad habit. one of my friends i notice being on electronic device is my best friend, she constantly on her phone on social media or researching videos or doing who knows what. she doesn't realize how much of her day she spends on her phone and how of a bad influence her phone has in her life.
