1. The “virtual simulator” hypothesis is the things we create or make up in our mind. Consciousness is being aware, so the simulator is creating awareness. I behave the way I do because I choose to; when I am in a bad mood it is because I created it, and when I am happy it is because I choose to be happy. I thought different when I was younger, and I am glad that my thoughts have evolved. When I project the future I see myself striving and succeeding. When I see my past, I see it as a learning experience.
2. Meaning Equivalence Theory applies to my belief system in all and any way possible. My beliefs have changed quite a bit since I was younger. There have been events that have made my older beliefs seem wrong to me. My beliefs have given me a reason to keep living the life I have. Therefore, as long as I believe in something, anything, I will be okay.
3. There was a time when I went to church and my sole purpose in life was God. Though I have stopped attending church and I have not stopped believing in a God, my purpose has changed. I find purpose in my family, my dogs, my future, and myself. With a different mindset than I had in my teens, I can say that my purpose in life is to prove to myself that the hard things I had to go through were for something. The struggles that make me who I am today, can shape me into becoming even better. My purpose is to help others in any way I can. It relates to the evolutionary imperative because I am using my struggles to help others not go through the same struggles. In a way, trying to prevent them from pain is how I relate to the evolutionary imperative.

1. The virtual simulator helps us imagine and create things in our head and simulate situations. This concept explains why we behave the way we do because of our decision to do or want something. At random times throughout the day I usually plan out what I should do or be doing and what I have to do next. Reflecting in past decisions helps me improve for future references and think of a smarter outcome.
2. M.E. applies to my own belief system by making myself think that I should take responsibility for my actions and beliefs. As long as I'm not going out of my way to inflict pain on others and keep myself happy then I'd have no problems for the rest of my life. What happens in the future all falls onto me as my responsibility and my beliefs have of course changed ever since I was little til now.
3. I find purpose in my life through friends and family. There are daily struggles that everybody goes through and I use my experience from those struggles to help others and feels like I could help more and more people each day. When I was young I was really selfish and only cared about what happened to me and not for anyone else even if it meant that it was completely all my fault but I know now to take responsibility for my actions and help others in need.

Question 1: The virtual simulator hypothesis is simply that our brains simulate reality in order to make predictions, giving the human being a significant advantage over other organisms in basic survival. Nowadays, it's often used to jump to conclusions about events or people and thus causes all sorts of trouble. For example, I find myself disliking most people even though I know almost nothing about them. Happily, if focused, the virtual simulator can be used to have ambitions (that are mostly not followed up on) and creatively think (usually people end up doing stupid things because of this).
Question 2: The meaning equivalence theory holds little meaning in my life. I believe that I am rather selfish and hold few true friends. However, this does not mean that I go around being a general asshole in life. It is very useful to be kind to or do favors for people you know or work with because I may require favors from them. However, once a person is no longer a part of my daily life, it becomes difficult to call upon such a person for favors. As such, unless they are a close friend who knows my secrets, there is no need for me to continue showering them with kindness.
Question 3: My current purpose in life is the pursuit of knowledge and wealth. Technically, only the former is my true ambition. However, the latter is usually a great help to achieve the former because with wealth comes plenty of free time to look into interesting matters. It is impossible to obtain all knowledge of course, so my focus is on powerful knowledge. We are riding the waves of the Information Revolution, and as science and technology continue growing exponentially, no doubt we will soon hit the next Revolution, perhaps within the next century. The new break seems destined to be achieved in either Physics or Neuroscience. Bringing about a Revolution constitutes power, and so these are the subjects I have chosen. How this ambition relates to the evolutionary imperative, I have no idea. I am definitely not particularly social, group-forming, etc.

Q1 The virtual simulator hypothesis states that consciousness is a Darwinian survival mechanism that allows our brain to play out different scenarios mentally in order to weigh which option will grant us the greatest probability for survival. There are over 7 billion people on this planet and every single one of them is competing to improve their lives in some way. This impacts me in the form of college and future job prospects. Colleges are full or trying to push you out the door as soon as possible and there’s no guarantee of work afterwards. Needless to say, this negatively impacts my ability to prosper. In order for me to be successful, I have to plan to take classes that will benefit me the most in securing a fruitful job position and as well look at the past to see what classes I have already taken.
Q2 I’m a hedonist. The pleasure I receive from laughing with friends and family, playing games, and improving skills gives me enough reason to continue living.
Q3 I hold the belief that there is no afterlife. You just return to the dirt as worm poo after you die. My more religious friends find this idea quite depressing. They asked me what the point in living is if I believe in such a bleak afterlife? I raised my arms and said this is the point, the present. My life is great. I’m not an old Egyptian slave that has to pull boulders around until my forearm bones deform from the stress. I get to layabout and casually talk about nothing with my friends. I have so much more freedom than in my former life as unconscious, unmoving matter. I should take advantage of this opportunity for the very short while that it lasts since I have the rest of eternity to return to unconsciousness.

Film test #5
1. The virtual simulator allows us to play out scenarios in our head with out having to deal with the immediate consequences. The virtual simulator is essentially to blame for most of man's suffering and unhappiness. It's because of the virtual simulator that we are never fully in the present moment. We're either re living and thinking about past events, or visualizing and focusing on the future. To increase happiness all we must do is increase the amount of moments that we fully want to be present in. An example I can give from my personal life is one of my recent job interview. The virtual simulator comes in handy to allow me to prepare and simulate the type of questions that will be asked, and what my responses will be. In this way Im more prepared and likely to get the job as opposed to someone who didn't prepare at all and as a result is nervous and flustered on the actual interview day.
2. I'm personally not religious so theres no religion giving my life meaning, instead I seek to give whatever meaning I can to this life through bettering myself every single day and learning as much as I possibly can. I believe that it's not only important, but vital to enjoy every single day here while you can. Why do anything else.
3. I find purpose in bettering myself when I can and learning as much as I possibly can. I find purpose in finding my purpose, if that makes sense. I find purpose in anything that brings me joy and sometime's in other people such as family, friends, my boyfriend. One thing that gives particular purpose to my life is art. I love creating and expressing myself through visual forms of beauty whatever that may be. I think that this purpose is actually kind of contradictory to the evolutionary imperative. I don't do it to leave something behind, or to please other people, or anything that has to do with something outside of myself. I do it when I'm inspired and I feel that it's an expression of the true soul.

1.)The Virtual Simulator hypothesis allows us to ‘hypothesise’ scenarios. With this stimulus, our brain is able to formulate predictions. This concepts explains why we behave the way we do and why our mind constantly projects into the future and reflects on the past. Being a college student, we are constantly thinking about our future. Every decision we make is influenced by our aspirations for our career. Past experiences also help us to make wiser decisions. That way, if we have once done something before, we know whether it was successful enough to do it again or not.
2.) The Meaning Equivalence Theory does not hold as much meaning in life as much as it did when I was younger. I do not consider myself to be as faithful as I once was when my parents would make me attend church every single sunday. Growing up, I would spend my friday nights at bible study memorizing the most significant verses in the bible and knew them like the back of my hand. I would pray before each meal and every night before I went to bed. Now that my parents have gave me the liberty to make my own choices, I have found that it has ruined my faith. Now that I am older and hold more knowledge about different theories and beliefs, I am skeptical of Christianity or any religion of that matter.
3.) I find the purpose in my life in striving for success and wealth. Growing up we are constantly under the pressure achieving the “American Dream” which can be associated with good health, happy family, and wealth. We are taught that the gateway to success is college, that it is must. I have developed to believe that my purpose is to establish a stable and comfortable lifestyle for not only myself but for my future husband and children and be able to provide for any friends or family members when in need. Life ultimately comes down to self happiness, finding something or perhaps someone that brings bliss and warmth into your life creating a purpose.

Film Week 5 Code: 9877666DD 1. The virtual simulator hypothesis is where we create a simulation of an actually situation in our mind before it occurs in real time. I behave the way I behave based on when I need or want something to further on with my happiness. An example of the virtual simulator hypothesis would be when I was playing football back in high school. Your not even playing in the game yet but the entire bus ride there your thinking about the plays, your assignments, etc. You run this threw your head multiple times before the actually event even happens. 2. The M.E. theory applies to my belief system. I have grown up and since I was born till now my beliefs have changed a lot. I was raised a Christian for a while and as I grew up started to question it. I change my beliefs based on experiences and lessons I learn over time. 3. I find purpose in my family and myself. I just try to go around and be a better person. I use to be the guy you give me a look I give you a look. That’s changed to I just smile and keep going on with my day. I find purpose just being alive to have the chance to learn something new that you never knew before gives me purpose. I also find purpose in helping out around my house and making my families lives easier. Evolving and growing your mind gives me purpose also. To me even if your having a bad day try to find some positive way about it and your will see a purpose all the time. sites.google.com/site/ryansworkhistory/

1. The virtual simulator theory to consciousness is essentially the idea that our consciousness induces simulations to events that we encounter in life. These simulations help us decide what would be best to do in certain situations when they arise. Our decisions and whatever consequences come from them are simulated in such an environment. This concept helps explain why people behave the way they do because their actions, under this theory, are what they believe is the best possible decision for them. I behave the way I do because I believe every action I do is best for myself. For example from a personal standpoint, whenever I propose some idea for a group effort, it has to in some way, weigh in my favor. This is not because of selfish reasons, it is because in many past group situations where I put the group ahead of myself; I end up suffering the most out of it. Using the virtual simulator theory, it justifies why I behave the way I do because my prior experiences taught me not to make the same mistake twice and thus makes me behave the way I do today.
2. I live life not because I enjoy it, not because I am forced to continue living, but because I fear. Meaning Equivalence in my life is simply put as: I am here and the unknown is well, unknown and might hurt me more than simply living. I was raised in a Christian-Catholic household so normally meaning equivalence would have some importance in my life because of God. At around the time of 6th grade however, I stopped living life with the belief that I live for God. The simplest way to put it now is that what I believe is the current meaning for my existence in this world is to control it. Not to become a slave to some higher being. I could always just cease to exist but then I won’t enjoy the few good things that life has to offer. I simply live because I do not want to potentially lose that which I have right now, also unnatural death is usually painful and I don’t like pain.
3. I find that my purpose in life right now is to try to make life as enjoyable as I can for myself while at time same time, think of some way to correct this world from the way it currently is. This world is corrupt, it is unfair, it is not yet equal and any large actions that are occurring in this world is only pushing us further down the path of inequality rather than towards equality. This personal view on life can be argued against, and by all means people are allowed to think however they want. I live because death takes away what I enjoy. It is too unknown for me to willingly submit to it even if it removes problems in this world. My purpose for living is to make some sort of impact in this world and should I survive to the point where I can pass on my legacy, hopefully somewhere in my lifetime I change the world so that future generations don’t have to suffer as much as I had to during my lifetime.

Film Test #5 Code: 9877666DD 1. The idea of our minds being caught in a virtual simulator intrigues me and sounds quite impressive, we are conscious when were awake but, yet as I type this I’m having so many other thoughts completely unrelated to this particular subject. For instance, like things in my life and how I should or shouldn’t have handled them. I wonder to myself why and how so many different thoughts could be filtering through my head at one time thinking about the future, present and past. 2. There are many times I wonder what the meaning of life is, and to be honest, I don’t know, thought I hope that someday I will. I used to have faith with I was a lot younger but not in the present day. I feel like I’m in constant tug of what is a true meaning equivalence, I don’t know if I have a reason for living, other than the people I associate myself with, I love those people, but I don’t have much faith in belief systems, which may or may not be a sad way to live, but I’m happy so who cares. 3. I’d like to think that m purpose in life would be to do something really truly meaningful, even special. My mother always said to me there was a purpose for me, and that God had a plan for me. I rejected the fact there was any god at a young age so when she would tell me that, I would always feel conflicted between what was real and what wasn’t and confused of my real purpose. I now believe that my purpose is to just live until I die and in the process to pass on my DNA. I’m not afraid of death, but it makes me sad to think that my children would lose out on a parent, like I did and that is what makes me sad, but death itself I’m not afraid of. sites.google.com/site/birdhaus00/

Week 5: 9877666DD 1. The virtual simulator hypothesis is what we create or make up in our mind. It explains the way we behave because before we make a decision( most of the time) because we usually picture the consequences and benefits in our mind. So therefore we create thoughts in our mind and act upon those thoughts. Our simulator is the act of us creating awareness. Our virtual simulator creates our mood, we can create happy thoughts, we can create upset thoughts, our personality is how we create it with our simulator. 2. The meaning equivalence theory has some meaning in my life. As I grew up experiences started to shape my life, I acted certain ways because of what has happened to me in the past, but everything in my life does have a meaning in it. Meaning equivalence has no affect on my religious beliefs. In my life 3. I find purpose in situations that benefit me. If I can make someones life better, i find purpose there. If I make my life better, there is purpose there. Getting good grades, getting closer to god, getting better at basketball, getting more fit, I find my purpose in those circumstances. And when i start to think about it even more, there is purpose in my life even when I feel like it doesn't benefit me. From failures i gain experiences, which is a positive it my life, it teaches me therefore i see purpose from it in my life.

Juan Flores Test 5 Code: 9877666DD 1. The "virtual simulator " help us be aware of what our decisions can bring up. That is why consciousness is our virtual simulator. Thinking about something before doing it help us take what we think is the best decisions at that moment. So, the way we behave depends on what we think is best for ourselves. 2. Meaning Equivalence is a weird concept that I feel a little with. It is true that the many religions were made because of our necessity to give a meaning for everything including our existence. However, there are more things that people have given meaning to. For example, family is like an institution that moves the world. The fact that two people decide to share their lives and have children is what moves those people's lives whether or not they believe in a God. Plus, their children are the ones that will move their world. I believe in a God and think that it is important for people to have their own motivations to live every day energetically whether it is a God or not. 3. I have found purpose in my family, religion, present and future. First, family is a great support that is holding my back all the time. We have struggled so much, and I cannot waste the huge effort that they have done for me. Second, religion matters in my life because I believe in a God and all that it contains. The purpose of religion for me I think that it is to be ready spiritually in case I died. Third, present and future I put them together, because our future is going to depend on what we do in the present. So, I find a purpose in becoming a good husband, father, grandfather who can pass his DNA to the next generation and be useful for the world in any way. sites.google.com/site/phil5byjf/tests

1.)The "virtual simulator" is the way we make up our decisions by making a mini movie of the outcomes on certain actions. The fact of being able to be aware of ourselves helps us create consciousness. I have been able to self-reflect and notice that when I am troubled by something I did i create the action I did over and over in my head. I act on my on by making the decisions in the moment but before i think of the outcomes by playing the different outcomes in my head before i approach the problem or the situation.
2.) The M.E theory does not hold as much meaning in my life as if i was a younger me. The fact that i didn't have a wide spectrum of knowledge that makes certain things before seem irrelevant. The fact that growing up catholic I was taught or rather shown that God created Earth and the universe but later knowing about the different elements of the universe such as the gravity or antimatter changes my perspective on the topic.
3.) I feel that my purpose in life is that I want to help everyone succeed even if i don't know them or even if I dislike them. The fact that i can't see people with a troubled lifestyle as a lifestyle to be called is quite interesting to me. I think to myself what if i was in that situation would i want someone to offer me some help and also tell me that I am going to be alright. Evolutionary imperative is a good way to put that we oursleves are struggling to know when is it our time. Also have we done enough in our life to make a difference in the world and would we get a peaceful afterlife.

1. “Virtual simulator” is our mind, not fully aware that our reality is being simulated. This concept helps explain the way that I am, because in my mind I am pretending or imaging certain things that are not actually happening. For example I get really scared to start a conversation or ask a question with that I don’t know, because in my mind I am imaging them reacting in a negative way which then scares me away from them. I believe that my mind does this because as a kid when I would ask my older siblings questions they would tell me that I am stupid or annoying. So my mind is imaging this stuff in the future because of my past.
2. I grew up catholic I had no choice whether or not I wanted to be catholic and I still don’t if I’m not working on a Sunday I’m forced to go to church. I have no problem with being catholic but not having a choice or being forced makes me want to rebel though I won’t. Now that I am older and I get to learn more about other things around me make me realize that no religion is better than the other. Meaning Equivalence, a meaning that makes me want to live one more day is learning, God, and family.
3. I find purpose in my own life every morning. Making it through the night safely, I am given another day of life to pursue what I want to do and given a chance to fix things from before. There’s a purpose why I am given another day of life and I have to make the best of it by staying focused in school, not going down a bad path, and continue being a good person to everyone around me.

Test #5 Alejandro Carrillo Philosophy 5 M/W 8-9:25
Question 1: The virtual simulator hypothesis to consciousness, and how does such concept help behave the way we do. the such concept shows the way we behave on a daily basis because everything we do reflects on the simulation of what is going to happen in our day. to be much more clear, people go through hundreds of thoughts throughtout a days time that it becomes overwhelming and will creat stress from solely simulation.
Question 2: the MF theory applies to my own belief system because i donot believe in religion, but i do believe in science. science is easier to believe because it provides evidence and religion just goes off of believing a book that was written by who knows who really. so science and down to the root of it which is physics and the four or six basic laws of physics. therefore i donot have a belief in religion, although i want to believe into a god type figure to feel sane and not feel lonely.
Question 3: Where do you find purpose in your own life and how does it relate to the "evolutionary" imperative? considering it took 3.5 billion years ago to stumble upon multicelluler organisation, it would appear that simple cellular is not imperative.back to the question, i find my purpose in llife in just doing something i find passion in and love doing. something usually where i can find inner peace and my brain stops working and shutsdown even though it is working highly like a chest game.

1. The “virtual simulator” hypothesis to consciousness can explain a lot about human behavior, and also explain why humans are such a successful species. A “virtual simulator” allow us as humans to try out different scenarios in our heads with realistic boundaries, which allows us to prepare for different obstacles in life. For example, in my life, when I hear loud noises, or when I’m startled by anything, as a reflex, I will move away from the source of what scared me. Now, there may not be any need for me to move at all, but for my own safety, I move away every time. In this action I am simulating a dangerous situation in which I need to move away from something, regardless of there being any real danger. Through my simulations, I have become better prepared for handling a real dangerous situation.
2. The Meaning Equivalence theory applies to my life perfectly because I have no religion. That’s not to say that I live for nothing. I believe it means quite the opposite. I live for the experience of life itself. Since experience, in my beliefs, end at death, It is experiences that motivate me to live another day every day
3. I measure my life in my art. I find many outlets through artistic means. My art ranges from paintings to music compositions to writing sci-fi novels. My passion and purpose is to create things. When the question of “to be or not to be” arises, as it so often does in creative types, I find myself rejoicing in the creative accomplishments I have made in my short 20 year life so far. The things I’ve crafted with my friends, and even on my own, hold so many stories and memories that I hold dear. The fact that a preemptive end to my life, would be an end to those stories, deter me from ever considering “not to be” as a possible option
