Film Test-Week 10: 12349
Jainism is characterized as the way of non-violence. It is based on Ahimsa which is described on the film “Acharya Shushil Kumar and the Way of Non-Violence,” as non-injury and respect toward all living things. The ultimate message to Ahimsa is to show loving kindness to all directions without recoil to any creature. Some religions may adopt Ahimsa to some extent, but Jainism adopts it in all aspects. Although there is no God in Jainism, they do believe true reality in the universe is spiritual in nature. It is perfectly stated in this film when said that Jainists “extricate their souls from the realm of matter in order to achieve absolute liberation.” Both the monk and the laymen must take five vows as follows: Not to harm any living creature, be absolutely truthful, not to steal, be chaste in thought, practice non-attachment by strict limitation of possession. Monks require two additional which are celibacy and poverty. They practice Ahrum yoga as meditational means. To adjudicate Jainism we must tackle the first hierarchical assessment with is determining the specific level of consciousness. Jainism directly tries to access a higher form of consciousness by meditation within and beyond the rational mind. This describes a high degree of authenticity. Thus, it would fall in the lower levels of legitimacy. Authenticity is normally simpler to adjudicate, as opposed to legitimacy.
