Film Test-Week 9: 987jdd
Transcendental sociology is based on authenticity and legitimacy. The more authentic the religions is, the higher it’ll be in the hierarchy of the integral map. If the religion holds more legitimacy, it unifies its follower better to that particular state of consciousness. This is based according to the film “Transcendental Sociology: Ken Wilber’s Critical Map of Religion.” A transcendental sociological analysis on the Christian-Catholic religion is similar to that illustrated in this film. When adjudicating this religion, we must acknowledge that it falls under the magical level of consciousness in the hierarchical assessment. Christian-Catholics also take material things such as bread and wine that are transformed into body and blood of Jesus Christ. Along with the same process of ritual chants by an authorized priest. Since this would be labeled a primitive state of consciousness, it would fall in the lower levels of the authenticity ladder. As stated in this film, this analysis doesn’t take away from the powerful bond that people have with a Christian-Catholic religion. With this in mind, it illustrates a high level of legitimacy. Estimating the legitimacy of this religion is, of course, a more difficult proposition when adjudicating. Although this religion may have different spiritual goals, teachings and techniques, it must be open to the idea of being wrong.
