Film Test-Week 7: 98776888
I am personally more attracted to neural theory. I’m more comfortable the idea of something physical which has several mechanisms. The analogy used in the film “The Wisdom Tooth” is perfectly structured by stating that a dentist utilizes Novocain to freeze a nerve in the wisdom tooth to seize pain. I acknowledge the fact that this causes neurons to shut the capacity to respond. This means no pain signals are sent to the brain. Of course, Novocain eventually wears off and pain arises. The details of mechanisms that Novocain undergoes within the neurons is extremely important and has been scientifically proven by neuroscientists. The fact that skeptics question the existence of human souls, makes the dualistic point of view less credible. I also agree with the film when it states that the dualistic standpoint holds no mention of mechanisms involved in the process of Novocain injections. I genuinely believe that there is no better explanation than a scientific one.
Artificial intelligence will absolutely transform how humans view themselves. Nick Bostrom and Elon Musk both feared that one day we would “become” the artificial intelligence that is growing at an exponential rate. It is beautifully stated in the film “Digital Existentialism: In the Future URAI” by saying that “The tomorrow of who we are can be glimpsed in the millions of applications that are downloaded daily to help us navigate our overlapping worlds of the virtual and the empirical.” In short, this means that one day we will become the applications that we rely on in everyday life. If this alone doesn’t transform how humans view themselves, then I don’t know what will. Another valid point that this film made was that everything is ready for digital consumption. This is a strong and accurate statement. Artificial intelligence is already changing lives and shows no signs of slowing down. I think this will impact how humans view themselves because the word privacy will adopt an entirely new meaning. Becoming the avatars within the applications that we utilize today will break new grounds in the future.
The future technological device that will change human behavior are the Google Glasses which sprouted in 2013, as summarized in the film “Global Positioning Intelligence.” When we look back at the 1960’s and see how much technology has evolved we realize the progress is ever so great. If we rely so much on our smart phones I wonder how much of a necessity this Google invention will truly be. Verbal commands in devices have definitely enhanced the technological environment. With this being said, Google Glasses have gone the extra mile to make sure that their devices are literally “hands-free.” Virtually simulating our everyday lives through a transparent lens will defy the odds of technological advancement.
